This project aims to develop new liquid pressurisation techniques that can significantly advance the in-situ crystallography and spectroscopy capabilities at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. Although based in Birmingham, you will receive strong co-supervision and access to world-leading resources from the Central Laser Facility, the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, and the Diamond Light Source. This will be a fantastic training opportunity to build a career at the interface between engineering and fundamental science.

课题组/学校/导师简介:
Group: The candidate will also gain support from our prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (>£1 m) with funds for training, career development, research visits, and more! You will be based in the School of Engineering at Birmingham but will work closely with colleagues in chemistry and other schools here, as well as with our international collaborators. A great opportunity to gain interdisciplinary and collaborative research experience and to build their network and career! Outstanding lab facilities are available in the group to support the candidates (www.ysunlab.com/facilities).
Birmingham: The University of Birmingham is a top 100, world-leading university with the Birmingham 2030 aspiration to be in the top 50 soon. Birmingham is the second-largest city in the UK and is well known for its diversity and welcoming culture for people from all around the world. Sitting in the West Midlands, you have easy access to various industries and national events, and we also have a fantastic local MOF research community. Some info about Birmingham:

Supervisor: Dr Yueting Sun received a dual bachelor's degree in automotive engineering and economics from Tsinghua University in 2010, followed by a PhD in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua in 2015. He visited the University of California, San Diego as a research assistant in 2013-14, held the KC Wong fellowship at the University of Oxford in 2016-18, and completed a brief postdoc before moving to Birmingham in Dec 2019 to take up the lecturer position (UK assistant professor), and became Associate Professor in Aug 2023. Yueting was awarded the prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to pioneer the field of MOF-based nanofluidic energy absorption.
Our research is highly interdisciplinary, so we welcome candidates from different areas:
• Chemistry: nanoporous material synthesis (MOFs, COFs, zeolites, polymer, silica), crystallography, mechanochemistry
• Physics: nanofluidic (nanoscale water), molecular dynamics, thermodynamics
• Materials: colloids (nanofluid), gel, polymer
• Mechanics: solid mechanics, rheology, impact mechanics, vibration, dynamics, acoustics
• Engineering: mechanical design, mechatronics, energy sustainability
